1/1/07 - Day 5
Sean went off to discover the sights of London on one of the open-top double deckers. I went off to explore Soho, and to try and get discount tickets for a show. I tried for Evita and Spam-A-Lot, but both had no discounts available. We ended up with Avenue Q http://www.avenueq.com/about.html and it was well worth it - a riot! Songs like "Everyone's a little bit racist" and "The internet is for porn" really make it the special musical it is! :) I wouldn't mind seeing it again if it ever comes to Sydney.
I went for a walk up The Piccadilly, finding a rather high-brow tea place called Richoux http://www.richoux.co.uk/home.htm and had a delicious late breakfast (Fortnum & Mason were closed, so must visit them again at another time) - back bacon, copious amounts of toast, hash browns, tomato, jams, sensational Cumberland sausage, OJ, tea...I was ready to tackle Soho! I must have walked at least 4 kilometres, trying to avoid the crowds that had turned out to see the annual New Year's Day parade. Wondered into St Martin-in-the-Fields, only to find out the lunchtime organ recital had been cancelled for that day. Damn! Walked on and on and on. Back to the Abbey for Evensong, and caught up on all the choir gossip from the previous night. It seems that one of Fr Graeme's groupies had a thing for poor innocent Huw. He wouldn't leave Huw alone all night and even tried to get into his bed! Well done Huw, for fending off that slimeball! In the evening, I met up with Sean for Avenue Q.
